MARGIN is a note-taking tool. It is built to touch as little of your browsing as possible — it acts only when you ask it to, and the only thing it stores is what you deliberately choose to keep.

What the extension accesses

The extension does nothing automatically. It never reads, scans, or monitors the pages you browse in the background. It reads the current tab only in direct response to an action you take — clicking the toolbar button, pressing a keyboard shortcut (⌥⇧M / ⌥⇧H), or choosing a right-click menu item. When you do, it reads three things from the active tab:

• the page’s URL,
• the page’s title, and
• the text you have selected (if any).

That is the entire footprint. It does not read form fields, passwords, cookies, or page content you have not selected.

What it stores, and where

When you save a clip or a note, that content — the quote you selected, the thought you wrote, and the URL it belongs to — is stored in your MARGIN account, hosted on our database provider (Supabase). It is tied to the account you sign in with and is visible only to you, unless you explicitly mint a share link for a specific page. Signing in uses a one-time code sent to your email; we do not store a password.

What we never do

• We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
• We do not use your data for advertising, and the extension contains no ad or tracking code.
• We do not build a profile of your browsing history — we only ever see the pages you choose to clip.

Why each permission is requested

• activeTab — to read the URL, title, and your selection from the current tab, only when you invoke the extension.
• scripting — to open the clip window and, on request, re-render your saved highlights onto the page you are viewing.
• contextMenus — to add the right-click “Clip to MARGIN” and “Show my margin” items.
• host access to margin.zephyrcode.live — to save your clips to, and read your notes back from, your own MARGIN account. The extension talks to no other server.

Your control & deletion

Everything you keep is yours. Sign in at margin.zephyrcode.live to view, search, and delete your notes and pages, or to revoke any share link you have minted. To delete your entire account and all associated data, email us at the address below and we will remove it.
